Day Number Calculator
Ever wondered which day of the year it is? Convert dates to day numbers or find dates from day numbers. Perfect for tracking project milestones or planning seasonal work.
Quick example
Say it's March 16, 2025. That's Day 75 out of 365 — about 20% through the year.
Or flip it around: Day 200 in 2024 lands on July 18, a Thursday. Great for scheduling milestones or aligning seasonal campaigns.
Leap years like 2024 have 366 days, so February 29 becomes Day 60 and shifts everything after by one.

ExploreFrequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a day number?
A day number is the sequential count from January 1st. So January 1 = Day 1, February 1 = Day 32, and December 31 = Day 365 (or 366 in leap years). It's a simple way to track where you are in the year without worrying about month lengths.
How does the calculator handle leap years?
The tool automatically detects leap years (like 2024, 2028) and adjusts the maximum day number to 366. February 29 becomes Day 60, and every date after shifts by one. The year selector shows which years are leap years.
Can I use this for past or future years?
Yes. The calculator supports years from 2020 to 2030 for the Day Number → Date mode. For Date → Day Number, you can pick any date your browser's date picker allows.
What's the difference between day number and Julian date?
Day number is just the ordinal day of the year (1–365/366). Julian date usually refers to the Julian Day Number, an astronomy system counting days since 4713 BCE. This tool focuses on the simpler ordinal day count.
Why would I use day numbers instead of regular dates?
Day numbers make it easier to compare progress across different years, especially when calendars shift. Saying 'We're on Day 200' instantly tells you you're 55% through the year, while 'July 19' doesn't give that context.
Can I share or export the results?
You can screenshot the result cards or copy the day number and date manually. We're building export and URL-sharing features based on user feedback.
